Faith - Hidden in Plain Sight
Like fingerprints at a crime scene, faith is often present but undetected.
What caused this?
A DOMINO EFFECT
Since the 1960s, FBOs have been working within an increasingly confident secular culture which extended into all spheres of society and public life including international development. The pervasive secular worldview that resulted set off a domino effect that changed the way faith has been understood...
LANGUAGE BEGAN TO CHANGE
FBOs soon discovered that if they were to participate meaningfully in both national and international fora and debate, they needed to adapt their own language to the secular one that now predominated. The rationale for this was not unreasonable, but the underpinning faith of FBOs became increasingly lost in the process…
FAITH BECAME MUTED:
Even though FBOs, churches and other faith groups continued and increased their work with local and global communities, the voice of faith became muted in the public square. As this domino fell, the influence and impact of faith in society became ‘Hidden in Plain Sight’.
HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT
This muted voice obstructed practitioners and scholars alike from perceiving any religious influence or role in society.
Like fingerprints at a crime scene, faith is often present but undetected – unless a process is applied to make it visible.
Qn: What process is needed for faith to be seen and heard in the public square?
